Darren Cresser gaines his “WILD CARD” invitation to the Great British Senior Team Selection down in London. Read on to find out more…
At Grandtully just before Easter, a fair number of the Tigers were racing in the premier slalom race. Saturday was the last opportunity for all to gain one of the two remaining wild cards for the selection events. With quite a tricky course, Darren was leading the northeners after first runs, well in contention to gain his place. On second runs, I put in a cracking run, that would have placed me 5th overall, but with 2 touches that put me way down in 11th. Darren’s first run left him sitting in 7th place and with a quick time saw his percentage guarantee him with a place at London over the May bank holiday weekend! Congratulations Darren, and well done for being only one of 15 men to qualify their spot.
The Tully weekend was also the final race of the under 18 selection procedure for the 2011 summer tours, our club’s hopes rested on Andrew Martin who performed well, but was missing one more result to get him into the top 3 places, he finished 5th overall, with only 3 making the cut.
Sunday’s racing was a lot more relaxed and fortunately for Darren, who lets just say had a blip in form, only counted as a normal premier division race and after missing the first few races the Tigers needed to score some points! I struggled to keep my runs clean, but lead the Tigers in 10th place, with Andrew in 16th, Mark in 19th and Darren in 20th.
Not a bad weekend’s competing, and a well done to Darren on getting his wild card!
Nicky
