Youth Local League - 8th January 2011

After having to cancel the first tournament due to the bad weather back in December, we were pleased to get this tournament up and running.  Youth teams came from all over the North East to get some more experience playing polo against people of a similar age.  The tournament went well with strong performances from all the paddlers particularly those fairly new to the sport.  Thanks goes to all those who supported the event.  Hopefully all the teams will now enter the National Champs that Tees Tigers are running again this year at the Watersports Centre in Stockton in July.  Read on for the full results. A committee meeting like no other…

In the run up to the A-team’s first tournament of the year, there was talk of “new team colours”.  The first I saw of them was at the committe meeting on the Tuesday before this tournament.  To be honest it was a good job someone mentioned to Duncan that he was now playing for the Tigers, given that he was planing on turning up with a sorry looking boat and shredded fablon.  Those years of playing Uni polo and a season for Pennine have clearly lowered his standard (I thought he was gonna have a few games for White Rose!). National League Play-Offs - 9th May 2010

Once upon a time there was a canoe polo team called the “Tees Tigers” and on the 9th May 2010 they headed off to Liverpool to play in the play-offs after completing successful seasons in Div 2 and Div 3. We all knew that all the games were going to be hard, but not impossible. Read more

A Busy Weekend…. - 17th and 18th April 2010

Someone asked Nicky what was happening this weekend just gone. Let’s see if I missed anything out as what a hectic weekend it was for the Tigers! Read more

Matt’s GB Polo Weekend

Tigers member Matt spent the weekend with the GB Canoe Polo team recently, here are his thoughts after returning home:

After making it through the selection process earlier in the year I was given the opportunity to join the under 21’s squad, I took up the offer straight away with great anticipation.

On the 21st of March I attended my first GB weekend. After a long drive down I arrived at Danson Park to begin my weekend of training. To start with we were introduced to the rest of the squad many of which I already knew from previous polo competitions, followed by an introduction to our new coach George Spittal. Read more

Tees Tigers’ Nicky Makes the England Team

Nicky Cresser’s not one for screaming from the rooftops, but we managed to squeeze this out of him when we found out he’d make the England team!

  • “I’m on the England team in C1 and have raced at Grandtully in the Pan-Celtic cup. I finished 8th, right up there with the prem guys which isn’t bad for a bit of a novice, guess. I managed a strong performance at the first selection weekend, dominating the fitness tests and having good presence on the pitch during the games sessions, I was named in the line up for the men’s senior A-team for the first major international of the season in Charleroi (Belgium). The team gelled after an uncertain start with a few significant changes in personel, and finished in 4th place in a very strong field. With this strong performance behind me I have been named in the line-up for Essen in Germany, after which the lineup will be finalised for the European Championships in August.”

The Cubs Play For The First Time

Sunday 30th November and coach Katie Sweeting takes the Tees Tiger youth team for their
first ever match….. Although they all compete in canoe slalom, they’d never played as a team
before and any practise was down to a few sessions at the training venue at Stockton….

    Tees Tigers Junior Team

“Just wanted to say a big well done to the kids who competed today in Pontefract, with only a
4-0 loss to an experienced Kingston side followed by a 2-2 draw agianst FOA and narrowly
losing 3-2 to green star after a disallowed goal, then to go on and once again draw 2-2 with an
older scratch team is more than impressive for a first ever competition for you guys.”
And many thanks to the organisers who ran such a tight schedule, even managing to fit in some
extra mixed team matches at the end for fun. The next match is again at Pontefract at the end
of January, now they’ve got a taste for it, they promise to learn more of the rules for next time!
