Middleton-in-Teesdale Div 3/4 Slalom – 2nd and 3rd October 2010

Well it was another extreme weather race weekend for the Tigers!

On the 2nd and 3rd October Middleton-in-Teesdale was resurrected as a slalom venue after many years off the calendar.

A cold but dry Saturday morning dawned with some doubts as to whether the event would go ahead after the river Tees had risen rapidly on Friday after non-stop rain, resulting in some lost gates.  To quote Andy Rhu, it rose by “one meter in five seconds”!  I think you had to see it to believe it! The National Inter-Clubs are an annual event where the top 20-25 clubs from across the country are represented by their top paddler in each division and category.  It is a big event in the slalom calendar - the only where all divisions are paddling at the same event plus the only where you are paddling solely for your club - so club rivalry is intense!  The competition has been dominated for the last 25 years by Stafford and Stone, undefeated in the last 7 years.  Last year was the first appearance for Tees Tigers, with a solid mid table performance. The Almighty trip to Belgium then Germany then back to Belgium!

Well we woke up at 6 aiming to set off for 7, but this did not happen unfortunately. So this meant we were an hour behind already!!!! But no worries, when we arrived at Nottingham, sure enough, we had to wait for Ads and Stuart who were late, not the top brown nosers of the day. We set off for the ferry, was a tight squeeze but it was no problem for the family magnet, it managed to fit 5 sets of kit, 5 sets of people’s luggage and two tents with sleeping bags! The struggle was the six boats and eight kayak paddles, seven of which were shoved in-between two boats free to move around a bit. The eighth was tied on the very edge of a boat. Read more

National League Play-Offs - 9th May 2010

Once upon a time there was a canoe polo team called the “Tees Tigers” and on the 9th May 2010 they headed off to Liverpool to play in the play-offs after completing successful seasons in Div 2 and Div 3. We all knew that all the games were going to be hard, but not impossible. Read more
