Middleton-in-Teesdale Div 3/4 Slalom – 2nd and 3rd October 2010

Well it was another extreme weather race weekend for the Tigers!

On the 2nd and 3rd October Middleton-in-Teesdale was resurrected as a slalom venue after many years off the calendar.

A cold but dry Saturday morning dawned with some doubts as to whether the event would go ahead after the river Tees had risen rapidly on Friday after non-stop rain, resulting in some lost gates.  To quote Andy Rhu, it rose by “one meter in five seconds”!  I think you had to see it to believe it! And more importantly we made Stafford and Stone worry!

All Tigers Trophies

All Tigers Trophies

The National Inter-Clubs are an annual event where the top 20-25 clubs from across the country are represented by their top paddler in each division and category.  It is a big event in the slalom calendar - the only where all divisions are paddling at the same event plus the only where you are paddling solely for your club - so club rivalry is intense!  The competition has been dominated for the last 25 years by Stafford and Stone, undefeated in the last 7 years.  Last year was the first appearance for Tees Tigers, with a solid mid table performance. On Saturday, We Gathered To Remember Sim

neillwatson_1039617After the terrible events of this past week, we felt it was appropriate to meet up on Saturday at The Watersports Centre on the River Tees to take a paddle up river. It was a lovely spring day with the sun shining and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came along to remember Sim.

We were overwhelmed by the response as over 100 people arrived, some traveling considerable distance to be with us and we had just under 100 actually paddling on the water with us. It was a great comfort to us all to know that Sim had so many friends who are thinking of his family at this time.

There are some photographs taken on the day, free for people to download for their personal & blog use, simply click this link and enter the password ‘tigers’ when prompted.

Once again, our heartfelt thanks for all of your support for Simon’s family, it really is appreciated.

Our Re-Launched Website

We’ve finally got around to launching the new website payout. Many thanks to Matt and Sim for the suggestions regarding which theme to use, for the kind of colour scheme we were looking for - the mods took a while longer, as always, but hopefully it will prove popular.
There’s be lots of news from this Easter Weekend with events at Grand Tully and also the pool Polo match at The Dolphin Centre in Darlington. So if you’re at either event, get your cameras out, make some notes and help the website to grow and grow!

Tees Tigers’ Nicky Makes the England Team

Nicky Cresser’s not one for screaming from the rooftops, but we managed to squeeze this out of him when we found out he’d make the England team!

  • “I’m on the England team in C1 and have raced at Grandtully in the Pan-Celtic cup. I finished 8th, right up there with the prem guys which isn’t bad for a bit of a novice, guess. I managed a strong performance at the first selection weekend, dominating the fitness tests and having good presence on the pitch during the games sessions, I was named in the line up for the men’s senior A-team for the first major international of the season in Charleroi (Belgium). The team gelled after an uncertain start with a few significant changes in personel, and finished in 4th place in a very strong field. With this strong performance behind me I have been named in the line-up for Essen in Germany, after which the lineup will be finalised for the European Championships in August.”
